Institutions of University Politics

On this page you can see which committees shape life at the university. You can participate in some of them as a student. The individual committees have their own websites within the university. You can quickly find the right pages via Google or simply use the links below.

Rectorate

The rectorate is the top managerial body of the university. Its tasks include strategic planning and development, the allocation of the needed positions and funds, and evaluation of the university’s performance. The rectorate is also in charge of all affairs and decisions that are not explicitly assigned to other entities.

Where necessary, the rectorate defines the specific competencies of university entities. It issues an annual review of university performance and provides an opportunity for student representatives in the university senate to obtain information on academic matters at least once a semester.

The rectorate consists of the president, who acts as its chair, four vice presidents, and the chancellor. The vice presidents are elected by the university council and confirmed by the senate.

AStA (General Student Committee)

The AStA is the political representation of the students and the executive body of the student body at the universities in NRW. To this end, it is divided into a chair and various officers, who also receive an expense allowance for their activities. The AStA is elected annually by the student parliament and works for your interests.

In addition to representing the students of the TU Dortmund, the AStA offers a range of services. These include advice on BAföG, studies and jobs as well as legal and social advice. We also offer housing and employment services, a bicycle repair shop and information about the semester ticket. Our student council finances are also audited by the AStA.

StuPa (Student Parliament)

The StuPa is a parliament elected annually by the students of the University of Dortmund. You can also stand on an election list. The StuPa lays down the foundations for the "Verfasste Studierendenschaft" (VS) - (engl. general student body), sets the budget for the VS and is generally the highest body of the VS. The General Student Committee (AStA) carries out the decisions of the StuPa. The StuPa has the task of monitoring the work of the AStA.

Since the StuPa sets the budget for the entire student body, it also indirectly controls the work of the other department student bodies. In addition, our student council constitution has to be approved by the StuPa.

The StuPa has a number of working groups that are formed and perform their tasks anew depending on the legislature. Others, such as the finance committee and the auxiliary fund committee, must always exist as permanent committees.

On the one hand, the student council has working groups (electronics working group), on the other hand, there are also student working groups for the whole university. The GET Racing working group is closely linked to electrical engineering. The Deutschlandstipendium scholarship network is also an official working group.
