Project Group
12 CP in the Master are acquired by completing a project group. For this purpose, we have summarized the essential information in a separate FAQ.
With the project group you should get an insight into the work as an engineer in a team. Accordingly, you should take on a challenge in the team. Similar to bachelor and master theses, project groups contribute a large part to the current research topics of the chairs. The range of topics includes the construction of models and devices as well as simulative or theoretical tasks. Depending on the task, the teams will have a size in the range of four to ten people, and you will be given tasks individually so that it is clear that you have passed the PG.
For project groups, there is a Moodle room about one to two months before the semester in which they are to take place, where you have one week to register for the project group that interests you. It does not matter if the maximum number of participants for the project group has already been reached. If too many sign up for a project group, the supervisors will draw lots for the participants of their project group. This draw will start immediately after the end of the registration phase. In general, the project groups will then be assigned according to §9 MPO.
After that, there will be a second registration round, again one week, which may be on a first-come, first-served basis or require an application. (Pay attention to the information in the Moodle room).
If you are interested in a particular area, you will probably also hear a relevant module in the first semester. It is worthwhile to approach the tutorial group leader and get into conversation about whether project groups are being planned. However, the application goes through the normal procedure.
A project group will take about 15 hours per week. Therefore, it is a good idea to look at the modules in the elective area of the complete master's degree beforehand and then consider accordingly how much time you have in which semester.
The project group will not receive a grade at the end, but the agreed goal should be achieved - accordingly, it is possible that the project group will take a little more time. If it is foreseeable that the goal cannot be reached, you should consider with your supervisors how you can continue. How you have to document the results depends on the chair. A written paper is possible. Usually there will be a final presentation.
